Limited Masterworks Vase Autumn Impressions

The busiest time of the year for any wine-grower begins early in the autumn when the first leaves start to change colour, the air slowly grows chillier and fruit trees and bushes hang heavy with their ripe harvests. The microclimate of the area around Meissen is such that, here in the Elbe Valley, excellent white wines such as Goldriesling, a speciality of the region, can be grown.

Our autumnal vase creation combines finest modelling skills with consummate porcelain painting of the highest order. Porcelain painter Holger Schill has complemented handmodelled leaves and grapes with realistically painted rose-hips and Michaelmas daisies, thus giving rise to this
evocative scene of a day in autumn - some of it most deftly applied by brush, some of it decoratively moulded - on which the sun bathes vineyards in warm light and causes them to shine forth like gold.

Endless generations of artists at Meissen have been inspired by their local flora and fauna to conjure flowers, blossom, birds and all manner of insects onto porcelain. The four seasons have regularly figured prominently in such undertakings - whether of a sculptural or a painterly nature - and from very early on evolved to become a genre in their own right at Europe's oldest porcelain manufactory.
