DESCRIPTION & Details
description
As early as the 1730s, the first porcelain manufactory in Europe began creating birds in porcelain-an artistic tradition significantly shaped by Johann Joachim Kaendler. His works, including commissions for the Japanese Palace in Dresden, laid the foundation for Meissen's enduring legacy of naturalistic bird sculptures.

Continuing this tradition is the Linnet figurine in Meissen porcelain, height 5.1 in. (13 cm). The linnet, a delicate songbird native to Europe, is admired for the male's subtle reddish coloring on the breast and forehead during breeding season, as well as for its lively, melodious song. Often found in open landscapes, hedgerows, and gardens, the linnet embodies grace, lightness, and natural charm.

Inspired by careful studies of nature, the bird is depicted in a lifelike pose with remarkable attention to detail. The fine modeling of the slender body, the delicately sculpted plumage, and the nuanced hand-painted coloration lend the figure an impressive sense of vitality and realism.

The creation of this figurine involves numerous elaborate steps-from precise mold making and careful casting to multiple firings and the intricate, hand-applied decoration. Each stage of the process requires exceptional craftsmanship, experience, and artistic sensitivity, resulting in a porcelain work of art that reflects centuries of Meissen tradition.
