DESCRIPTION & Details
description
A series of MEISSEN® child figurines, most masterfully modelled by Julius Konrad Hentschel (1872-1907), is symptomatic of the change in the way children were portrayed in early 20th-century art. Further "Hentschel Children" were produced by Paul Helmig (1859-1939). He sensitively captures moments in which his young models drift off into a world of their own, as is the case with this girl and her cherries. The fine detail in her little dress reflects the fashion of the age as well as underlining the children's liveliness. Not only does Helmig's empathetic style of painting pick out patterns and stitching, it even evokes individual facial expressions, thus articulating each child's innermost personality and mood of the moment.
